Oh look, I've burnt my Lib Dem membership card

I feel I need to explain things. I've identified as liberal virtually all my life. I've voted Lib Dem at nearly every election I've been able to vote in. I've been a card carrying, paid up party member on and off for 11 years. I built the website for the parliamentary candidate for Cardiff Central in 2002, Jenny Willott (who subsequently became MP in the following election).

I am liberal, from the left of the party. As was.

The party is no more, in my eyes. There's still lots of brilliant people with morals, ethics, principles and backbone. But the Liberal Democrats can't ever be seen as anything other than opportunistic glory hunters now, ready to capitulate at the drop of a hat if there's a whiff of phony power.

I believed. And now I've been shafted. Honourable principles have gone. I'm somewhat heartbroken. Education cuts and Clegg's justification for jettisoning deep-rooted Liberal doctrine with background images of the police beating school kids in London did it.

Thanks for leaving me politically ambivalent.
