Well, I've rooted it, as this screenshot shows. Because if you can't get root, you don't actually own it.

By the way, the one thing I wasn't prepared for is how good the iPad keyboard is. I can almost touch-type on it (and, indeed, am doing so now) - quite a surprise, I was expecting a two- finger typing experience!
