Trying out Posterous again

I'm lazy. I don't want to have to maintain a bunch of stuff to keep a web presence. That's why I gave up on a Drupal-hosted blog, and have shuffled around from place to place ever since, looking for a tip-top place to call home.

Right now, my home is powered by Tumblr, but I'm wondering about using Posterous instead. There's acres of reasons, but there are two main attractions to Posterous:

  • It's crazy simple to use
  • It's crazy simple to theme

The usage couldn't be any easier. Email stuff to post@posterous.com and let it transform whatever you send to something sensible. Attachments will be turned into assets of one kind or another. Links to Flickr and YouTube videos are turned into embedded media. Send a bunch of photos and it will make a nice slideshow - and upload to Flickr at the same time. This is brilliant stuff.

The theming is similar to Tumblr's but with one huge advantage - there's only one sort of post to theme. No need to worry about how a picture, a link, a quote, a video and so on (and so on) look, or the code to fancy them up - just let Posterous do the heavy lifting, and fanny about with the CSS instead.

So... I'll see how this works out.
